How the belt is earned.

Kumite grades one thing: go-to-market. Funding, headcount, and capital type are context — they tell you who's in the ring. They do not determine the belt. The belt is earned across seven GTM dimensions, every one of them read from outside-in signals anyone can observe. No vendor fills out a form; no private number ever touches a grade. A fighter is placed on two axes — the weight class it fights at, and the belt it has earned.

Market gravity: revenue band, footprint, and share of category attention. It sets who you're measured against. Scale is a bracket, not a verdict — a giant can be graded poorly, a specialist can be graded flawlessly.

Belt — mastery
How good the motion is

Earned across seven GTM dimensions, white to black. A featherweight can hold a black belt; a heavyweight can hold a white one. Capital buys scale. It does not buy a belt.

White
Unproven. In the arena, thesis not yet validated in market. The motion is raw or not yet repeatable — early signal, no track record to read.
Blue
Functional. A repeatable wedge and early traction. The fundamentals work — a buyer can name what this is and why, and the pipeline shows it.
Purple
Refined. Clear position, efficient demand, defensible in its lane. Strong on most dimensions; the gaps are known and being closed.
Brown
Contender. A near-complete motion, one or two dimensions short of the top. Wins its weight class on a good day; not yet the name the division reacts to.
Black◆ Champion
Division-defining. Owns the category's budget line and a durable distribution edge. Sets the terms others answer to. The top belt in a weight class is its champion.

Stripes mark momentum inside a belt — measurable progress toward the next rank, not a rank of their own. A brown belt with stripes is climbing; the belt only changes when the motion does.

Positioning
Can a buyer say what you are and why you, in one line? The sharpness and defensibility of the wedge — read from messaging, the category you claim, and how analysts file you.
Demand
Is there real pull? Search interest, inbound, and whether a budget line exists that you didn't have to invent — read from public demand and hiring signals.
Category
Do you define the category or rent it? Whether buyers cite you as the reference name, or you fight inside someone else's frame.
Durability
Does the motion survive contact? Retention, switching costs, and whether an adjacent platform can absorb the idea without buying you.
Channel
How you reach buyers, and how efficiently — PLG, channel and MSP, alliances, marketplace gravity. The distribution edge, or the lack of one.
Resilience
Can you withstand consolidation? Resistance to incumbent bundling, displacement, and M&A pressure — the odds you're still independent next season.
AI Citation
When buyers ask LLM search engines about your category, do you get cited? Cross-engine density across Perplexity, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Brave, and Google AI Overviews — read against representative buyer queries, refreshed quarterly. The newest meaningful signal in cyber GTM.

The seven dimensions resolve into a belt — the summary rank — and a one-paragraph read, the judgment behind it. The belt tells you where a fighter stands; the Verdict tells you why, and what would move it.

Verdicts grade the motion, not the money. A nine-figure raise that ends in a discount sale is a weak motion that was well-funded — and it grades as one. The arena rewards the go-to-market, every time.
