Series 01

The Search–Citation Gap

Three categories — MDR, CNAPP, AI Security — read against the same paired instrument: Google brand-search demand and cross-engine AI citation. The same pattern repeats. Brand search is becoming the lagging indicator. AI citation is becoming the leading one. Where a vendor sits on the new quadrant predicts what happens to it next.

The instrument

One paired pull per category. Same instrument across the series.

Demand side. Twelve-month and prior-twelve-month Google search volume, US, for the category term plus the disambiguated brand names of the top five-to-seven pure-plays. Year-over-year change is the read. Data: MyTelescope.

Citation side. A single representative buyer query — "best [category] vendor for [context]" — fanned across Perplexity, OpenAI, Grok, and Gemini. Tally which vendors each engine cites. Universal (four of four) is the belt-equivalent. Data: MyTelescope ai_search.

Cross-reference. Where a vendor sits on the two axes — brand search and AI citation — is the read. The four quadrants above are the frame.

Next intel run. ITDR · SIEM · identity · the SecOps platforms.
